Can I borrow a laptop?

General information
SRUC provides access to laptop and Chromebook devices for short-term and classroom use through self-service terminals called ‘LapSafes’.
Where are LapSafes located?
LapSafes can be found in the following locations:
- Aberdeen campus: Inside Aberdeen Library
- Barony campus: Outside the Rural Learning Centre, (RLC), in the corridor next to the library
- Edinburgh campus: Inside Edinburgh library
- Elmwood campus: Inside Elmwood library
- Oatridge campus: Inside Oatridge library
How do I borrow/return a device?

When do I need to return a loaned device?
Devices need to be returned on the same day as they were borrowed.
Devices loaned from: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Elmwood or Oatridge campuses need to be returned before the campus library closes at the end of the day.

A device loaned from Barony campus will need to be returned by 22.00 (10pm).
What happens if I am late returning a device?
Failure to return borrowed devices will result in the following:
Overdue notices will be sent to the patron who has not returned a device, (two overdue messages followed by a third which will be the bill).
First overdue: Fine = £5
Second overdue: Fine = an additional £5
Third overdue: Fine = £650 for a laptop, £300 for a Chromebook + all prior fines
Any library account with £10.00 or more in fines will be locked and unable to borrow/renew items from SRUC libraries or the LapSafe system.
What do I do if I have an issue with the LapSafes or a loaned device?

What about long-term laptop loans?
SRUC has a limited number of laptops that it can loan to students over an extended period of time.
